My KLE came with a Ventura Bike Pack which sits over, not on, the original rack (maximum load 9kg). It's what I would call soft luggage. Apart from that the bike is fairly stock (bark busters and a smaller rear sprocket), there is no additional sub frame added in to keep things off the exhaust pipe.

Have to say that there is a bewildering array of stuff out there now WRT to carrying stuff on bikes.

What have members used that worked to keep the wet out, the dust out, and is reasonably robust (I will probably fall down)?

Looking for 10 responses and 13 different opinions.

Andy Strapz soft panniers are great you will need to make/buy racks for them I’ve done  more than50,000ks with mine and they are still going strong never leaked even in deep river crossings

Giant Loop saddlebags seem like worth a look.

Remember, the smaller the luggage the less you will take, just break it down to what you need.

Have fun looking.

Like Chappa, I use Andy Strapz soft panniers and they're great.

For 'more economical' options, check out the range at Third Gear.  Their 'throw over' bag is also a very good unit.

Peter I’ve ridden with a few guys with Giant loop  and similar style bags while they are great quality and fit well the guys found them very frustrating because it is very hard to get just one thing out without upsetting the whole apple cart and having to repackage the whole thing on the side of the track. This may not be a problem if you are very organised and can remember  exactly where everything is in the bag.
Where as in the pannier bag types you can rummage around in them get what you want roll up the top clip them down and on your way

Keep an eye on eBay and gumtree. I bought some excellent sw.motec bags at a great price on eBay. Almost new for $100.

Sleeping under the stars vs. Just 5 will effect things, as will the length and remoteness of the journey.

Does Just 5 mind you sleeping under her/him? Probably best if you are remote ;)
It's just more time to be flat out!
