Pete and I headed off from Melbourne around midday Saturday, and after an un-eventful trip, we arrived at Holbrook around 4:00. we checked in to the motel, had a beer and some fairy cakes, then headed to the RSL for a feed and a few more drinks. we were accosted by a fellow Vinduro nut at the club and chatted with him for a while. the 'new bar' at the club is now finished and fully operational, so that will be good for those going to Holbrook next month. After dinner, we headed back to our room and crashed around 10:30
Murray's Cookardinia property is about 40 mins out of Holbrook, so after doing the math, we worked out that we had to get up about 6:00, bummer! the motel lady wasn't getting up at that time to do us breakfast (b!tch), so we settled for a continental brekky before we left. arrived at the site around 8:00, registered and got ready to hit the circuit after the mandatory riders briefing.
As the pics show, it was fine and sunny and as the day progressed, it got quite warm. I was riding my '79 PE250 and Pete was alternating between his '82 175 and '81 400. the course was good. 15k's of trail, varying from tight rutted single, to open flat grass track. the event is advertised as 'big bore' country cos there's plenty of opportunity to wind the old girls out! As the day progressed, some of the tighter singles got quite chewed out and became very 'powdery' which made visibility bloody difficult (remember dust?) But all-in-all, a good fun ride with around 80 entrants.
The trip home was loooonnnngggg and tiring and now I've got a 5 days to stop the bleeding in my ears before I'm away with Pete again next weekend!
