OK Gurus,

Where do I get bike wheels balanced?  Or, where do I get those funky wheel weights to do it myself?

My TS has a good 'wobble' to it at speed and I need to fix it.  I understand the procedure, but don't know where to get the weights from.  Some of my 'vintage' wheels had a lead wire wrapped around some spokes, while other wheels had lead weights crimped onto the spokes.  Don't care which system is used, just want to know where to go to get it sorted.

The lead wire is cored solder stick, comes rolled on a spool. It does the job and is multi adjustable for weight.
It's just more time to be flat out!

Serge I am pretty sure " lightfoot engineering " has them to buy , remember seeing them when I picked up my wheel plus not far from you.

Hi Serge,

I used some 20mm diameter round lead fishing sinkers, cut a slot in them and used vicegrips to lock them onto the spokes. Works well

A more elegant solution is wheel weights from Ballards. ( www.ballards.cc/catalogue/) Check them out on page 42.

Cheers,
Phil

Thanx guys, all good ideas.

I spoke to Phil from Lightfoot Engineering (he re-built the wheels), and he suggested removing the source of the problem (ie. the rim lock).

Given em that the TS will only ever be ridden on dry roads, this may be the best course of action.  It will take a helluva lot weight to counteract that.

Move the rim lock to opposite the valve, if it ain''t there already, this will get part of the balance job done.

I know it will leave a hole but taking the rim lock out will also leave a hole.

If you remove the rim lock - one day - - - - -
